Limits & things to know
- Metadata is removed by re-encoding the image through a canvas. That discards every metadata block — including the colour profile and any copyright or attribution fields you wanted to keep.
- Re-encoding as JPEG recompresses the picture, so quality drops slightly. Choose PNG output when you cannot afford any loss.
- Metadata already embedded in a copy someone else holds cannot be removed retroactively — strip before sharing, not after.
- Some platforms strip metadata on upload anyway, and some add their own; this tool controls only the file you produce here.
Troubleshooting
The photo looks slightly different after stripping
Re-encoding drops the embedded colour profile, which can shift colours subtly. Use PNG output, or accept the shift for web use where sRGB is assumed.
The file got larger
PNG output is lossless and can exceed a JPEG source. Choose JPEG output with a high quality setting if size matters.
You wanted to keep the copyright field
Stripping is all-or-nothing here. Re-add attribution in a metadata editor after stripping, or keep an untouched master copy.
Privacy & data handling
The photo is read into browser memory and re-encoded on your device — it is never uploaded. That matters especially for this tool: sending a geotagged photo to a server to have its location data removed would defeat the purpose.
