Media files are the ones people are least comfortable uploading: a screen recording of a private call, a photo carrying GPS coordinates, a rough cut of a client's video. These free media tools decode and re-encode locally using WebAssembly builds of FFmpeg and the browser's own media APIs, so the file stays in the tab.

Speed depends on your own CPU rather than a server queue, which is the trade-off that buys you privacy and unlimited file sizes.
